If you’re exploring business certifications, you may have noticed several options available through the Women’s Business Council – Southwest (WBCS). Each certification serves a different purpose and can help position your company for specific contracting, funding, and growth opportunities.
Here’s a quick breakdown to help you determine which option best fits your business goals:
Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE)
- Designed for businesses that are at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by women. WBE certification is nationally recognized and connects companies with corporate supplier diversity programs seeking women-owned suppliers. It’s ideal for businesses looking to expand into private-sector and corporate procurement channels.
Small Business Enterprise (SBE)
- For independently owned small businesses that meet NAICS code size standards based on revenue or employee count. SBE certification helps increase visibility and access to contracting opportunities with local government agencies looking to partner with qualified small businesses.
Small Business Enterprise+ (SBE+)
- This enhanced certification builds on SBE by adding additional documentation, including personal assets and liability documentation that defines Personal Net Worth. This certification is a small business requirement of the DFW International Airport.
Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB)
- A federal certification for businesses that meet SBA requirements. WOSB allows eligible companies to compete for set-aside and sole-source federal government contracts specifically designated for women-owned small businesses.
Many businesses qualify for more than one certification, and combining them can maximize exposure across corporate, regional, and federal opportunities. If you’re unsure which certification (or combination) is right for you, our team is here to help.
