So, you received the MVP Power Pitch award! How did it feel to win?
Completely joyous! There has been one consistent element to every winning pitch that I have taken part in – present a big idea and bring it alive with creativity. I am truly honored to have won. Thank you!

Give us a synopsis of what you pitched!
Organizations are spending an average of $700 per employee for health and wellness programs. Yet the cost of absenteeism, lost productivity, and even “presenteeism” due to poor health is costing American business billions of dollars each year.  And, the average cost of health insurance today for a family of 4 is 40% of the average American wage.  Our current approach to health and well-being is missing the mark.  It’s time to recognize that health and well-being begin at home, in the kitchen, and around the table by sharing a home-cooked meal.  Research shows that people who cook at home and share meals are healthier and happier, take fewer sick days, and are more engaged at work.  Life At The Table closes the health and well-being skills gap by educating and inspiring workers to answer the most important question of the day, “What’s for dinner?” Services include speaking engagements, cooking demos and hands-on training, and culinary team building.

How did you prepare; and how long did you spend preparing for your presentation?
Two and a half days sprinkled throughout the month before.  I wrote my speech word-for-word, memorized it, and then developed the presentation.  And I practiced, practiced, practiced.

Are there any potential contracts because of the pitch competition?
Yes!  Several people expressed interest in my services, and I expect that follow-on discussions will be scheduled.

What was your experience?
Fantastic!  I would recommend that everyone throw their hat into the ring for this event next year.  Developing a pitch that tells the story of the issues that your customers are facing and how you address those issues – and do that in less than 10 minutes in a very engaging way – is a very valuable exercise for everyone.

Any final words?
Many thanks to the Women’s Business Council – Southwest and all the Corporate Sponsors who made the day possible! Beyond the Power Pitch competition, it was also a great day of networking.  Thank you!
